In the late 70s I was working as a flight instructor and air taxi pilot In Los Angeles. One of my flying students turned out to be one of the most esteemed audio engineers in the world at the time, Juergen Koppers. He listened to the demo tapes I had brought from Philadelphia including “Babe Come Home” and liked them well enough to take me into Rusk Sound Studios to record a demo session. I had a couple songs published in Los Angeles, and we picked this one to record. I co-wrote it with Randy McCollough an Austin songwriter who was living in LA at the time. Juergen was on top of the music world having completed projects with Donna Summers and the likes of Barbara Streisand for instance. He was also best friends with Harold Faltermeyer the author of the Top Gun movie theme who ended up playing organ on my demo session. Juergen had the pick of all the A-list session players in LA and he was able to get Nicky Hopkins on piano, Billy Champlin on backing vocals/tambourine, and Mike Baird on drums. Sorry to say I do not have the names of the electric guitar and bass player having written them down and sadly lost all that info including all my master tapes in The Valley Fire of 2015. That was one of the reasons I moved to Texas in January 2021 then on to Tennessee in the Spring. I am singing lead and harmony vocals plus playing the not so obvious acoustic guitar. I thought this demo was my ticket to ride into the music industry, but nothing ever happened with it. I had a young family at the time and was not willing to burn my bridges to pursue music full time and I was actually happy with my flying job. It's been a long, strange trip as the Grateful Dead would say. I'll try to document more of it in the future in the hopes of not boring people too much. I also spent a lot of time re-mastering this demo in my little Pro Tools home studio. Please let me know if you like it or hear anything that would improve ‘the master’.
